At any given time, almost seven million Americans suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds. Some are associated with complications from diabetes and other related vascular disorders. Other types include pressure sores and traumatic wounds. The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at The Villages® Regional Hospital (TVRH) uses the most up-to-date approaches to wound healing and remains current in new scientific advances in wound care.
Who needs wound care?
There are a variety of circumstances in which a person may need wound care:
- Wounds caused by circulatory problems (e.g. arterial ulcers)
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Venous stasis ulcers (as a result of improper functioning of valves in the veins usually of the legs)
- Pressure sores (e.g. bed sores)
- Non-healing surgical wounds
- Post -radiation wounds
What treatments are available?
The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at TVRH uses an interdisciplinary model of care which includes infectious disease management, physical and occupational therapy, laboratory evaluation, nutritional management, pain management, diabetic education and radiology testing to address total patient health. The Center offers debridement, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, dressing selection, special shoes, and more.
The use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been proven effective in reducing swelling, fighting infection and building new blood vessels to produce healthy tissue. Our Center holds the area's largest individual hyperbaric oxygen chambers.

Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians with advanced training in wound management, nurses, technicians, and experienced staff to assist with appointments and health insurance processing. Our partnership with Healogics®, the world's largest wound care management company, helps our team deliver excellent evidence-based care to patients while achieving excellent clinical outcomes and high limb salvage rates.
The Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center at The Villages® Regional Hospital is the recipient of the President's Circle distinction which was given in recognition of the Center's outstanding performance in patient satisfaction and healing rates. The Center was awarded this prestigious honor by Healogics, the nation's largest provider of advanced wound care services. Out of 413 eligible Centers, only 29 were honored with this award nationwide.
For five consecutive years, the Center has been recognized as a Robert A. Warriner III, Center of Excellence, achieving patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days to heal.
